A private company has opened a route called "The Train of the Clouds" in the Argentinian province of Salta. Now everybody can travel by train over the Ands for 140 dollars.
The most part of the route - this is almost 500 kilometers during 15 hours - is at the altitude of more that 4 thousands meters above the sea level. To get up to the mountains, the train has to get through two dozens of tunnels and about 40 of bridges. Most of the canyons are up to 100 meters deep. During the trip and at the stops the tourists can enjoy the virgin nature of this state natural reserve in the north-west of Argentina.
The train has also a restaurant that offers selected dishes of the national cuisine. It makes three trips per week and carries 180 passengers at once. Those guests that have problems with altitude can use individual oxygen cylinders. The information about the sights is offered in several languages and there is even a folklore band.
The tickets for the first trips have been sold already several months ago. |
