In the middle of June in the German town of Stralsund a modern oceanarium has been opened and it is considered to be one of the largest ones in Europe.
The building of an oceanarium did cost about 60 million Euro and it was built in almost three years. The complex consists of 39 huge aquariums for which the filling at the initial stage required more than 2,5 million liters of water.
In the oceanarium are presented about seven thousand fishes, crabs and other sea inhabitants of hundred various kinds from the Baltic and northern seas and also from Atlantic and Arctic oceans.
Visitors can observe the underwater life through windows made from special glass with a thickness of 34 cm . It is supposed that annually the new oceanarium will have over 550 thousand visitors. |
