Thousand of inhabitants of Athens have observed a lunar eclipse from the Acropolis. The entrance to such sight sites has usually long waiting lists.
The terrestrial shade reached the Moon at 19.36 on the world time. The maximum phase (81 %) the eclipse reached were at 21.10 on the world time.
Prior to the beginning of the eclipse, crowd of inhabitants of Athens and tourists went to the Acropolis. The museum administration has been forced from time to time to restrict the access to «the sacred rock», closing the iron gates.
Visitors had to wait not less than 40 minutes to get on the rock top to the temple Parthenon constructed during an epoch of political and cultural blossoming of Athens in 5 century B.C.
During August full moon, which has coincided with a lunar eclipse, the Acropolis was opened at night for free visiting. |
