More than 100 tourists were rescued by the forces of the Krabi Island marine police from the burning ferry. On the ship that was transporting people from the Phuket Island to the Phi-Phi Island the fire in the engine compartment began.
The fire in the engine bay began about 11am when the vessel was very close to Phi-Phi. The frightened passengers were crowded at the nose of the 32-meter long ship, where they waited for the rescue boats.
All the tourists were evacuated during 15 minutes and delivered to the Phi-Phi Island. The 85-tons vessel, that was owned by the Andaman Wave Master company was still on fire for some time and after that sunk. The reason of the fire was the leak of fuel. |
